Week 3 of Cybersecurity Awareness Month: Explore. Experience. Share.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Have you asked your children this question? Is it early in your career or are you thinking that you might want to do something different? Have you ever thought about a career in Cybersecurity? You may just think a career in cybersecurity is like any other IT job… running around connecting computers to a network or helping users find where their printed documents went. Cybersecurity is a totally different beast and those in the field can earn a handsome salary.

Cybersecurity threats are growing and therefore the cybersecurity job market is growing. If a large job market isn’t interesting to you, then maybe the average pay will interest you. According to cisecurity.org, the average pay for a systems administrator is $79K, Cybersecurity Analyst $92K, and Software Developer $102K. These are just a few of the job roles in cybersecurity. Check out NIST.Gov for more information on a career in cybersecurity.

The National Cybersecurity Alliance has devoted an entire week of the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month to Cybersecurity Careers. The theme of this week of Cybersecurity Awareness Month is “Explore. Experience. Share.” It will highlight the Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week led by National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE). The goal is to inspire students, and even adults who may want a change in their career, to learn about the dynamic field of cybersecurity.
